Description

This listing is for 1 oz of atomized steel powder, being an extremely fine (150-200 mesh) powder consisting primarily of iron.
Atomized steel can be used as a fantastic demonstration of magnetic fields, as it will contort into amazing shapes if a magnet is near by, but be careful! If you get this powder stuck to your magnet, it will be very difficult to remove! This is similar to "iron turnings" that are included in most science kits, but it's a much finer powder so makes more accurate displays of magnetic fields.
Other uses include in so-called "cold casting", this powder can be used as a filler for various resins and epoxies to add weight, and to make it look like metal once cured. Simply mix 50% resin with 50% steel by weight and polish once cured and you'll have an accurate representation of cast iron without having to cast real iron!
Iron powder is also used in some fireworks compositions to make bright yellow sparks when mixed with other pyrotechnic compositions, on it's own however it won't combust and is fairly safe to handle.
