    Description

This cup, one in a series by the Louisville retailer and jeweler Merkley Kendrick, features the winner of the Kentucky Derby, and the year of the race, engraved on it's bottom.  This is the 1979 cup for Spectacular Bid.  I will be listing three others from the same era.
This julep cup is 3 1/2" tall and 2 7/8" in diameter at the top and 2 3/8" in diameter at the base.  Heavier than many cups, this one weighs 158 grams, or just over 5 troy ounces.
This cup has three bands of decoration at the top and bottom rims.
On the bottom, it is marked for Merkley Kendrick, since 1832, Spectacular Bid '79 and sterling.
