    Description

Presented is a small 18th century French silver cup made in Paris. This cup is very simple in design with threaded decoration below the rim. There is an old monogram of CM in block script near the rim on one side.
The underside of the cup is marked with a maker’s mark with the initials HLC and a crowned letter L corresponding to production in Paris during 1752. The side of the cup is also marked with the number 4 and two more hallmarks. I am not sure what these two hallmarks represent. In addition, there is a third hallmark on the base, but it is far too obscured to read.
The cup is in decent condition, especially considering its age. There are 5 splits around the top of the cup. The largest split is 1/4 inch or 6 mm in length. There is also one solder repair along the top edge. There is only one minor dent to the body and some minor dings to the very bottom. None of this damage is unusual or unexpected in this type of item, which is over 250 years old. Otherwise, there are no other dents, no other breaks, no monogram removals, and no other repairs. All of the splits to the cup could be repaired if so desired.
The cup measures 2 3/4 inches in diameter and is 2 inches tall.
The weight is 49.9 grams or 1.7 ounces.
