Description
Here's a couple of gorgeous vintage candlesticks or candleholders, which were made by the famous Cambridge Glass Company of Cambridge, Ohio. The etched decoration on these is their etch Number 704, sometimes referred to as 'Windows Border'. My reference identifies these as Cambridge's #227-1/2 candlesticks. Which is all well and good, but the best thing about these is the color, which Cambridge called 'Topaz'. It's sort of a yellowish green or a greenish yellow color (lots of people would call it 'vaseline glass', but I don't think that's an accurate description...I don't own a black light anyway). The Topaz color was introduced in 1923 and was producing into the early 1930's (though I think most of it was produced in the 1920's).The candlesticks are only about 1-5/8" tall, and the bases are about 3-5/8" in diameter. Both pieces are free of nicks, chips, fleabites, etc. The color on these things is utterly gorgeous (hope it comes though in the pics); I've never seen very much of it that I can recall, so I'd guess it's a little hard to come by. Regardless, I'm drowning in glassware as it is (and can't seem to stop myself from constantly buying more), so these need a new home.
